Strong Perimeter Shooting Leads Warriors to Victory Over Embry-Riddle

San Dimas, CA - On Sunday afternoon, the Warriors traveled down to Prescott (AZ), to take on Cal Pac opponent, Embry-Riddle.  In what would prove to be a dynamic shooting performance for the Warriors, LPU took the game by a final score of 92-68.  With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-0 on the season.

Midway through the 1st half, it seemed as though the game would come down to the wire.  Embry-Riddle got off to an early start and held an 8 point lead over the Warriors at 28-20.  The Warriors then got hot.  With the score at 34-33, LPU proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to close out the half.  Kyler Villarreal and Adam Vasquez got hot as they hit back to back to back three-pointers, which were then followed up by a layup and perimeter bucket from Nathan Brummett.  The Warriors held a comfortable 48-36 lead as they entered the half.

The recipe for success remained the same for this LPU team; share the ball, find the open shooter, and knock down the open jumper.  The Warriors did that and found tremendous success as they completed the road win in dominant fashion, defeating Embry-Riddle, 92-68.

28 assists on 33 shots made, while shooting 50% from the field, would prove to be the story of the game.  The unselfishness and execution on the offensive end put multiple players in positions to succeed.  They were led by Kyler Villarreal, who finished with 24 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 6 steals.  Adam Vasquez finished with his first career double-double, as he finished with 10 points and 10 assists.  Austin Cook continued his stellar play, finishing with 15 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds.  Ethan Galang (13 points) and Daniel Hernandez (11 points) continued to shoot the ball with efficiency from the perimeter for the Warriors.  LPU did a great job on the defensive end as well, forcing 21 turnovers, while only committing 6 turnovers themselves.

When reflecting on the team's dominant victory over Embry-Riddle, Coach Tim Cook stated, "When you make your schedule before the season, you want to play games that will prepare you for the GSAC.  This game on the road at Embry-Riddle, was a true test to our group of guys.  I'm so proud of the way that we executed, defended, and played hard for a full 40 minutes.  We stayed within ourselves and had 28 assists, while making 18 three-pointers.  That will add up to winning basketball.  Super proud of this group and our program!"
