Warriors Travel to NorCal with GSAC Play on the Horizon
San Dimas, CA - Life Pacific University's Men's Soccer team closed out the preseason with a 1-7 record, with that mark not telling the whole story. Despite the 7 losses, the Warriors have battled closely with multiple opponents, including GSAC opponent Hope International and Saint Katherine's. The Warriors enter the conference play with a clean slate as this is where the season officially starts, with LPU traveling up North this weekend, to take on Menlo College and William Jessup University.
On Thursday, they will take on GSAC opponent, Menlo College, at 4pm. Menlo enters the match with an overall record of 4-2-2. Some of their highlight wins include a 6-0 victory over Pacific Union College and a 5-0 victory over CSU Maritime. Their 2 losses on the season came against nationally recognized opponents, Southern Oregon and UC Merced, who both have votes at the national ranking level.
On Saturday, the Warriors will then travel to Rocklin, CA to take on William Jessup University. Jessup enters the match with an overall preseason record of 3-2-2. Their highlight wins so far on the season include a 5-0 victory over Pacific Union and a 3-0 victory over CSU Maritime. Their 2 losses on the season came at the hands of NCAA DII opponent, Academy of Art, and UC Merced, who as previously mentioned, has received national ranking votes.
LPU will look to build forward on the offensive side of the field, with the Warriors only scoring 3 goals in their 8 matches. With their defense significantly improving throughout the season and becoming a staple to their play, the offensive end will be the determining factor in how the Warrior's will fare in GSAC play. So far on the season, Jacob Stratton, Angel Mata, and Luis Mendoza have all scored for LPU.
When asked about the upcoming GSAC schedule, Coach Joey DeSantis stated, "We are looking forward to being able to play in the GSAC because we know the level of play is very talented within this conference and there are some really good teams. Our biggest goal, as we enter the GSAC play, is to compete, and make sure that we give maximum effort every match. As a young program, we will always be striving to learn and grow from each experience that we have. Can't wait for the first match this week!"
