Castro Named GSAC Defender of the Week
San Dimas, CA - Freshman middle blocker, Diana Castro, has been named the GSAC Defender of the Week, following her performance in LPU's matches over this past weekend. The Warriors went 2-2 this past weekend in the Hope Summer Slam, as they defeated La Sierra and Northwest (WA) on Day 1, while dropping the next two matches to Southern Oregon and Simpson on Day 2. The Warrior's schedule has been filled with tough matches as they have faced 2 nationally ranked opponents already (#23 Providence & #10 Southern Oregon), while also facing two opponents that have received national votes. After their first 8 matches, LPU sits with an overall record of 3-5. When asked to reflect on Diana's performance this weekend and receiving the Defender of the Week honors, Coach Wes Schneider stated, "Diana has been working so hard this pre-season on being a big-time contributor at the net. This award shows her hard work and commitment is paying off. She is going to be so fun to watch during her career here at LPU and we are so lucky to have her!"
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK - DIANA CASTRO
Castro led the way for the Warriors on the defensive end, as she finished the weekend with 20 total blocks, averaging 5 blocks per match. Her best match was when she set the LPU freshman block record in a match, as she finished with 9 blocks in the 5-set victory over Northwest (WA). She averaged 1.18 blocks/set. She also finished with 21 total kills on the weekend.
